Is it safe to give an 80lb lab baby aspirin for arthritis?

My 7 or 8 year old dog, Scarlett, is an 80lb black lab and for the past few weeks she has been crying when I take her out of her crate in the morning. She limps a little and seems a little stiff. I think she has arthritis. I haven't called the vet yet but this morning she was crying and I felt so bad I decided to give her some baby aspirin. She was crying again tonight so I have her another one. I'm worried it may be bad for her; human medicine doesn't always react to animals the same way.
Getting her a special animal medicine is out of my budget right now. If baby aspirin isn't good for her, what else could I give her?

Of course I'm going to contact the vet, but I have class every morning and work every afternoon until evening. I love my big baby girl. I just don't want her to hurt until I can get her there.
