Side Effects of Dog Pain Relief Prescriptions

Cat Feline Pain Medication with or without perscription?

I am getting my cat spayed next month, the organization that I am taking them do does not provide pain relief. I want pain relief for them as I don't buy that it's not going to bother them so, as a person who tolerates lots of pain, I feel they are still babies and shouldn't have to endure that kind of pain. Once the intial anesthia wears off that ish hurts. If you can give me names weather I need a perscription or not, I would appreciate it. THanks in advance.

All our cat spays go home with buprenex for pain management.
It is critical that a cat gets the proper pain control post op because without it healing is delayed.
Animals who are in pain tend to fuss with their incision sites more which can lead to complications.
You will need a script for buprenex.
Buprenex is an opioid that can be administered trans mucosally (squirted into the cheek pouch)
It works extremely well but does cause some sedation
Another alternative is metacam.
Metacam can be given short term in healthy cats post op.
Only give metacam if your kittens organ function was checked prior to surgery.
Metacam is nephrotoxic so its hard on the cats kidneys. That is why it is only given to healthy animals and short term.
Metacam is a non steroidal anti inflammatory and not as potent as buprenex.
