Stop Dogs From Eating Poop

Well, this is not my most favorite topic, but it is a reality that I have had to face recently.  My puppy has found a new way to get my attention!  As if he didn’t have my full undivided attention already with those big blue eyes of his!  He so cute.  

Anyway, Some of the questions you may be asking, I know I definitely did: How can I stop my dog from eating poop? Is this going to last the rest of his life?  Why does he do it?  It’s so nasty and can not be healthy for him!

There is nothing worse than having your dog give you kisses with poopy breathe, don’t you agree?! I walked outside one day and found my dog consuming ‘you know what’ and was so grossed out! I immediately went inside and did some research to see what I could do to fix this nasty act.

This is what I found out: This problem is more common than you would think. Here is what YOU can do to help with your dogs and their poop devouring ways.  To be able to stop your dog from eating poop, you should first UNDERSTAND why he does it. Don’t just ask, “Why do you do that?”  There are many different reasons why for different dogs, and definitely should not be ignored.

Have you ever heard of a dog eating her puppies?

My friends pitbull just had puppies but during the nightime. She found them all dead except one. They were thrown all over the yard and looked mauled by the pitbull. Is this common in pitbulls or dogs in general. The pitbull is very young, not even one year old and the pitbulls puppies were half breeds (don't know what type). I am just asking because I have never heard of this happening and why would this happen? The last one was missing this morning and my friend thinks she ate it?? Thanks in advance for all replies.

Any animal can and will eat their young. Many people believe it is because the mother can sense birth defects or sickness in her offspring. If the pups were sick, it is possible the mother killed them. I have had litters were the mothers have done similar things. Everything from rejecting specific pups to actually eating them. They are animals with hundreds of years of instinct, don't be surprised if they act a little primitive now and then.
