Domestic feline breeds

When selecting a cat as a part of the family it is very important that you choose the pet that has the personality and characteristics that best fit the needs of your family. Many people select cats based on those that they have become familiar with such as the Burmese cat pictures that are often seen on cat calendars.  While Burmese cats are beautiful, they do fall into the high maintenance category of feline pet. Another popular breed of cat is the Turkish Van cat. Turkish Van cats are easily recognizable by their white bodies with colors on their head and tails. Some of these cats also have a distinctive spot on another part of their body as well, but for the most part they are completely white except for their head and tail. So once a person has decided to add a cat as a member of their family it is important to decide which breed of cat will fit with the family. There are a few steps that will make selecting the best domestic feline breeds for your family to make that decision a little easier.

1. The Canadian Sphynx, Don Sphynx, Peterbold, and Ukrainian levkoy are among the hairless cat species that of course, do not shed at all. Extra attention must be paid in taking care of them though because they do get cold and need to be in a warm environment or introduced to kitty sweaters very young.
2. Choosing a cat that does shed while there are individuals who may have allergies in the family will require that some extra steps be taken to reduce the allergens in the air. One way of reducing shedding allergens is to wipe your cat down daily with distilled drinking water,  in addition to coming the cat daily. It is also important to have a vacuum that is designed to pick up hair from floors and furniture and to vacuum daily during shedding season.
3. It is important that the feline you select have a personality that compliments your household and that the grooming requirements of the cat be what you can do. For instance, a Persian cat while beautiful, requires daily grooming. These are very high maintenance felines with personalities that make them an invaluable addition to a home with children. The three most popular breeds of cat are listed however it is important to know that there are hundreds of breeds of felines that all have very distinct personalities and the perfect cat for you may be amongst another breed. Abyssinians are very  social and like to be around people. They are extremely curious and like to be in the middle of whatever is going on in the house. Burmese are very affectionate lap cats and love to cuddle, they are not "needy" but they do give, and expect to receive, a lot of attention. Persian cats are extremely even tempered and very good with children. They are very gentle and are quite content with being handled by anyone.

Why would my male cat come up and bite the back/tail area of my female cat while she was using the litter box?

Both of my cats are fixed and have lived together for at least three years. This is the first time that I have observed my male cat do this. If anyone knows what the meaning behind this feline behavior, please answer. Thanks.
