Dog Arthritis Glucosamine

When do you know its time to put your dog to sleep?

We have a 7 year old dog that has hip dysplasia and arthritis. He is crying in his sleep now and my husband has had to physically take him outside to go potty. It is sooo sad! We have been giving him aspirins twice a day and glucosamine supplements as well. He is still eating as long as you put the food right in front of him. I really dont want to make this call. Don't dogs have high pain tolerances? He is actually moaning and crying when he's laying down. When do you know it's time to put him out of his misery? He's a young dog, this is crazy.

I think you already know that it's time. I'm really sorry. But, please put him down instead of making him suffer no matter how much you want him to stay here. He will thank you and you will feel better that you made the decision to make his last couple of minutes painfree.

Please go in with him while they do it. That way it will be YOUR face that he sees last on this earth, instead of a stranger's. I was a vet asst and it broke my heart when people wouldn't come in with them. Yes it's soooo hard, and yes you will cry so much, but the drs know this. You can either hold him or have his head in your arms, or whatever. It's very a very humane process. They'll just insert the i.v. and the meds go right in there. Their heart instantly stops...they do NOT suffer. Just pet him, tell him how much you love him and that you're giving him the ultimate gift of your love. That way he can see your face, and hear your voice and feel your love as he drifts off.

When he is gone, please think of him playing in heaven with our other pets that have gone on. I believe that our dogs will be there. My Mrs Beasley got hit and killed and I bet she will be right there to greet your little boy and they will play and play PAIN FREE until we get there to be with them!!!

I do hope you believe in God and that you are saved/born again. If you are, you'll be in heaven and I think you will be thrilled to be reunited with your boy. He'll be waiting for you!
